With the warm weather continuing this weekend, here’s a look back to our last BBQ in the summer sun here at Bunkers Hill. Our wonderful staff put on an excellent spread of food for residents to indulge in, all while soaking up some sun.

Here at Bunkers Hill, our residents have been spoiled once again by our fantastic kitchen staff. Over the past few days there have been a selection of magnificent meals on offer, including Past Bolognaise, Sweet and Sour Chicken, and a lovely Sunday roast!

A very enjoyable couple of days for our residents and compliments to the chefs as always.

With Summer deciding to arrive in September this year, it’s time to think about staying cool for once! Just because this week’s heat has arrived later than usual it is still important for older people to keep themselves safe – as excessive heat can quickly cause problems for some people. Here at Bunkers Hill we always make sure our residents are properly hydrated and kept as cool as possible. We thought we would post this excellent advice from Age UK which you might find useful during the coming week. Enjoy the warmth but stay well everyone.

– Keep blinds down and windows closed when it’s cooler inside than out.

– A cool bath or shower, or a damp cloth or a splash of water on the back of your neck can be better at cooling you down than a fan.

– Most medication should be kept below 25°C – so it might be best to keep it in the fridge when it’s really hot.

– Drink plenty of water to avoid getting dehydrated, but avoid alcohol as it can dehydrate you.

– Keep eating even if you’re not feeling too hungry. Try to eat more food that’s cold and has a lot of water in it, like fruit or salad.

We hope that all of you stay safe this week and we will be doing our best to make sure all our residents are kept as cool as possible.

Take a look at these two fantastic desserts made by Fran recently, she gave our residents two lovely creations, excellent toffee profiteroles and a delicious strawberry mousse.

As you can see they look absolutely wonderful and tasted just as good – thank you Fran!

We’re fortunate enough to have some delicious Blackberry bushes scattered around our care home grounds here at Bunkers Hill.

Recently our new kitchen assistant has been out picking the best of the bunch to make a pie for this evenings pudding, we can’t wait to taste the results.

Here are some excellent photos from another one of our fantastic events, the Seaside day was a great success, with the home adorned in beach-themed decorations such as inflatable beach balls and palm trees. There were many sources of entertainment for visitors and residents as well, with a small fishing area with rubber ducks in like a carnival game, and some fun card games on offer as well.

The whole day was topped off with some wonderful cotton candy and ice creams available for everyone to treat themselves to!

There were plenty of happy faces at Bunkers Hill recently as we held our picnic afternoon, there was a wide selection of gorgeous sweet treats on offer, accompanied by excellent entertainment throughout the day which gave the home a lovely ambience.

We’re happy to see another event go down well with the residents and hope that our future events are as good if not better!

There was some great fun in store for our residents recently, the tapas afternoon was a great success, the home was decorated excellently with a Spanish theme, and the spread put on by our kitchen staff was absolutely incredible – great work by the team to get it all organised and a lovely way to spend a gorgeous afternoon!

Our team members are hard at work getting ready for our Tapas Afternoon today, as you can see the food that our kitchen staff have cooked up is looking absolutely fantastic – be sure to stay tuned over the coming days for photos of the event which, based on the how the food is looking, will be absolutely incredible!

There were many positive messages at Bunkers Hill last week as staff member, Rachel, goes on maternity leave – both staff members and management alike wished her all the best.

She is sure to be missed but we wish her all the best and hope she makes the most of any downtime she can get!
